Aqua Cooling Solutions are now offering customers three different energy saving options across their entire range of 1-1,500 kW chillers.
Their free cooling, partial heat recovery and total heat recovery systems are in response to industry concerns over rising energy costs, energy efficiency and carbon emission levels. Aqua are also actively promoting the funding and taxation benefits that are available to qualifying companies through The Carbon Trust and The Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme initiatives.
“Some of our clients suddenly saw their utility bills soaring by as much as 120% within a 12 month period”, explains Aqua’s Sales Director Simon Davis. “It therefore became vital that we could offer high quality products with a genuine emphasis on energy and cost efficiency. With free cooling and our heat recovery systems customers are seeing real benefits over a relatively short time scale.”
Aqua’s free cooling chiller units reduce electrical usage by utilising low ambient air temperatures to cool the return water whenever possible. The chiller has an inbuilt electronic controller which modulates a three way valve in the water return line. When the ambient air temperature drops below that of the return water it is diverted through a free cooling coil and automatically reduces the load on the refrigeration system, resulting in partial or total free cooling. Free cooling comes as a factory fitted option but Aqua do also offer a ‘bolt on’ unit to enable customers to upgrade existing equipment.
On the heat recovery side, refrigerant desuperheaters are fitted to the chiller’s refrigerant compressor lines. This achieves partial heat recovery, resulting in high grade hot water up to 55°C of approximately 20% of the chiller’s cooling capacity. For total heat recovery, the total cooling capacity and compressor input power are reclaimed as high grade hot water, again as high as 55-60°C. This hot water can then be used via a separate circuit for a different requirement or at another point within a manufacturing process.
Many small and medium sized enterprises who replace or upgrade an existing chiller system with an energy efficient version can qualify for investment funding by way of an interest free Energy-Efficiency Loan from The Carbon Trust. With no arrangement fees and a repayment period of up to four years, once the cost savings gained exceed the capital amount of the loan they can go straight back onto the company’s bottom line.
A number of Aqua’s products also qualify for the Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme. This enables a business to claim 100% first year capital allowances on the monies spent on energy saving plant and machinery. Companies are able to write off the whole capital cost of the investment against taxable profits for the period during which the investment is made giving a boost to cash flow and shortening the payback period.
