Aqua Cooling made it to the final cut of the national Plastics Industry Awards in London recently.
The firm, which specialises in energy efficient, industrial cooling solutions, was shortlisted in the Ancillary Machinery Supplier Partnership award category with its client, food-to-go packaging manufacturer Anson Packaging (part of Danish-based multinational Faerch Plast Group).
The Plastics Industry Awards highlight and reward excellence in an increasingly competitive market. Competition is stiff every year with finalists being judged on innovation and exceptional performance. Aqua Cooling made it to the last six companies shortlisted in its category, with team members attending the Great Gatsby-themed awards ceremony at the London Hilton hotel on Park Lane on Friday 30 September.
Shaun Lancaster, Aqua’s Senior Designer and Project Engineer for the south and midlands, said:“It was a significant achievement for our team to make it to the finals of these prestigious awards alongside companies offering industry-leading solutions to their clients."
“It was also great to spend the evening celebrating with colleagues from Anson Packaging, in what has been a year of great success for our partnership.”
As a manufacturer Anson is unique because it takes raw products and processes them into innovative packaging for ready-meals, cold food and fresh meat. The extrusion line makes the raw source into a plastic sheet before the thermoforming line processes it into the end product, ready for market.
Aqua Cooling installed a bespoke Smardt Turbocor system for Cambridgeshire-based Anson that utilises state-of-the-art, glycol-free, free-cooling and magnetically driven centrifugal compressor chillers.
Aqua’s new system has brought both energy and cost savings for its client. Aqua’s design removed fixed-pump and fan-motor energy totalling 94kW from the installation. In terms of overall electrical running costs, the Smardt Turbocor solution is 60 per cent more efficient compared with traditional scroll compressors that have integrated free cooling.
This is the latest solution Aqua has put in place for Anson in a relationship stretching back more than a decade. Over the years Aqua has worked closely with Anson, designing, supplying and installing its cooling equipment, as well as providing a full after-sales service.
Shaun added: “Anson Packaging has always valued our honest approach to the efficiencies of our systems and the predictable energy cost savings. This has led to an ongoing relationship that has grown with each new project. This time we began with the supply and installation of chilled water pipework to the cooling installation. We’ve gone on to work on all compressed air and other associated pipework at the site, essentially becoming the main mechanical contractor on this project.”
As a result, Anson has taken out a full five-year service contract with Aqua Cooling – this includes 24/7 support, 365 days a year, with full access to Aqua’s rapid response team should the client encounter any problems.
As well as reaching the Plastic Industry Award finals, Aqua Cooling has won national and regional awards for its innovative cooling solutions, including a 2015 Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation.
