Types of Industrial Chillers Available
The two basic types of industrial chiller are a water-cooled chiller and an air-cooled chiller. Both types cool process fluids but they differ in how they reject the excess heat. The key difference is in how the condenser cools the refrigerant. With an air-cooled chiller, ambient air is used to cool the system, whereas water cooled chillers use water as the cooling medium to remove the heat from the refrigeration system.

Chiller Service and Support
Aqua provides service and maintenance support on all main brands of chiller, not just our own units. We offer emergency breakdown response, one off servicing, Planned Preventative Maintenance plans (PPM) and help with glycol and chiller spare parts.
Planned Preventative Maintenance plans give you a proactive approach to chiller servicing. You’ll be regularly visited by an Aqua engineer who will ensure your chiller is working as efficiently and effectively as possible. PPM plans extend equipment lifespan and reduce costs overall.
Every Aqua Pro chiller supplied with a PPM comes with a 3 year warranty as standard.

Custom Cooling Solutions
Aqua chillers are highly configurable, so can easily be customised to specific process requirements. For example, if a chiller is going to be sited in a location near to the sea, it would benefit from a corrosion-resistant finish on the condenser coil and external panels. For noise-sensitive environments, low noise fans and soundproofing options would be preferable. With larger units – our Aqua Pro+ and Aqua EcoPro+ models – internal tanks, pumps and control valves can be included.
At Aqua we have an internal design, projects and mechanical services teams. This allows us to design, manufacture and install completely bespoke cooling solutions, including cooling skids. Chiller efficiency is the energy consumed by a chiller unit, compared to the cooling capacity achieved. It is normally given as a Coefficient of Performance, or COP, rating or, more recently, an EER (energy efficiency ratio) figure.
Chillers are often the single largest energy consuming piece of equipment within a building but there are things you can do to improve their efficiency, including:
Check the refrigerant charge – over or under charged refrigerant circuits will negatively impact efficiency.
Clean the chiller condenser – even lightly fouled condensers will affect energy consumption negatively.
Replace the thermal expansion valve with an electronic version.
Replace fans – with EC fans or the addition of an inverter. Water pumps can be upgraded like this too, giving a much more efficient alternative.
Utilise free cooling – use the lower ambient air temperature, when possible, to save on mechanical cooling, this helps your cooling equipment last longer too as there is less wear and tear on key parts like the compressor.
Scroll, screw, reciprocating and centrifugal are the three main types of compressors found within a process or industrial chiller.
Screw, scroll and centrifugal relate to the different types of compressors that are found within a chiller unit. A screw compressor has two rotors or screws. A scroll compressor has two scrolls, one fixed and one orbiting. A centrifugal compressor operates on the premise of centrifugal force. Different compressor types achieve different efficiencies depending on application and operating conditions (full load, part load for examples). The operating temperature of the chiller will also dictate which type of compressor is used in its design.
