Managing Heatwave Risk
Why adiabatic retrofit technology belongs in every cooling strategy.
With temperatures in the UK hitting record highs this summer, business owners are faced with the challenge of keeping their cooling systems operational as they’re pushed to their limits. The rising ambient temperatures don’t just increase the demand on equipment they also reduce the very efficiency needed to meet that demand.
Equipment that has worked seamlessly suddenly starts to fail as temperatures rise, causing downtime, business interruption, product or produce loss, impacted staff and ultimately, an impact on the company’s bottom line. The underlying problem is that older equipment was designed for yesterday’s climate and it just isn’t capable of coping with the heatwaves of today.
One option would be to replace your cooling equipment with a modern alternative that is specifically designed to operate in a maximum ambient of 40°C. That comes with a high price tag and a lot of disruption, when effectively it’s only really required for a short spell each summer. So, is there another way?
In short, yes. At Aqua we offer an innovative adiabatic retrofit system. It ensures your key equipment stays operational, even in a heatwave. It can be added to any equipment with a large external heat rejection system, including chillers, air blast coolers, condensing sets, cold store systems and large VRV /VRF air conditioning systems.
When temperatures rise, the retrofit system reduces the ambient air temperature reaching your cooling equipment by as much as 15°C. This keeps the equipment running as it should and it also allows it to manage the higher load that high temperatures create.
The adiabatic retrofit sprays a small amount of mains water into the oncoming air, your equipment then benefits from the adiabatic effect, which instantly reduces the air on temperature to the regional design requirement, or even lower. A UV filter, pump spray system and automatic drain & flush, ensures the retrofit is extremely effective and completely safe.
An adiabatic retrofit system can be fitted in as little as two days and the work can be carried out on site, with the equipment in situ. There’s no downtime involved, so business can continue as normal during the process. As well as being quick to install, it’s easy to maintain and the adiabatic functionality will only operate during periods of high ambient temperatures.
It’s suitable for a vast range of applications, from critical cooling in hospitals & data centres to food producers, factory production & retail.
With meteorologists predicting that the hotter summer temperatures are here to stay, Aqua’s adiabatic retrofit solution is a cost-effective way to future proof your business, ensuring you avoid costly downtime and unnecessarily investment.
