Situation

Greencold are a long-term Aqua client who, as their name suggests, focus on providing environmentally friendly and energy efficient solutions. For this particular application they were working with a manufacturing company who produce a range of highly technical rubber products.

The manufacturer needed to store their rubber products in their warehouse facility at an average of 20°C, otherwise quality and length of shelf life would be compromised. This was becoming more difficult to achieve with their existing system, especially with the higher and lower normal seasonal temperatures.

Solution

With the customer requiring heating in the colder winter months, and then cooling in the summer, we suggested a reverse cycle heat pump from our Aqua ProHeat range of industrial, high temperature units. Heat pumps are a highly sustainable option for any application needing heating and cooling.

The heat pump selected achieves 274kW of cooling and 199kW of heating, whilst operating on low GWP (Global Warming Potential) refrigerant R454B. So, depending on the time of year and temperature, the unit can provide heating or cooling to the warehouse as required.

The heat pump was designed with an integrally mounted high pressure (4 bar), high flow circulation pumps on a run and standby configuration. Plus, the addition of a large buffer vessel tank resulted in a fully self-contained unit. Effectively a plug and play unit, installation of the unit was very simple.

Results

The heat pump technology avoided the need for the client to install a gas boiler and use gas within their system. They were able to embrace a much more sustainable, cost-efficient way of operating. Not only will they cut their operating costs, but they’re safe in the knowledge that their temperature control system is reducing their carbon footprint and helping them become a more sustainable manufacturer.
